From £0 Pipeline to £350k in Proposals. In Under 4 Months.
A story about a founder building predictable lead flow
Four months ago, a founder I now work with said this to me on our first call…
"We have no visibility past next month's billing. Everything could end next month. Billing could drop to zero."
That wasn't over-the-top dramatics. It was the actual state of their business (and of many businesses I speak to every week). In this case, they're a specialist consulting firm, a few years in, driving measurable, impactful results for their clients, but running the business entirely on referrals. They had £0 in the pipeline and no long-term contracts. They were reliant on whatever came in from the people who already knew them.
The founder told me they had been saved by timely referrals far too often. Every time cash got tight, someone would call and a new deal would land. Great for staying afloat, but impossible to build any scale and predictability.
Paradoxically, those acts of fate were the real problem, as it removed the urgency to fix anything properly.
Fast forward to today, that same firm has proposals out worth more than £350k. And more in the pipeline building up behind it.
Here's what we changed.
We activated the SNAIL framework. Went laser focused on one ICP instead of chasing everyone. Picked the conversation activator that actually suited the founder's style and personality, not a generic script. Hired an experienced BDR contractor and set the plan in motion.
In parallel, we worked on the founder's mindset, polished the discovery call process, and revised the pricing so it reflected the value being delivered, not just time spent.
Inside two weeks, conversations started happening. The SNAIL was gathering pace.
Inside four months, the pipeline was full and deals started becoming real.
If your business runs on referrals and nothing else, reflect on these final thoughts:
1) What happens the month nobody refers in your time of need?
2) Is your growth systematic, or have you relied on luck and charm so far?
If either of these points makes you feel slightly uneasy, then I'd love to talk.
Simon
